For its first event, Independent Viewpoints (IV) is bringing American Muslims and concerned citizens together for a panel discussion on the volatile political situation in Iraq. The day-long event, entitled 鄭 Dialogue on Shias, Sunnis, and Politics in Iraq・ will take place on Saturday, June 3rd, 2006 at the incredible 1200+ seated venue, Rose Hall at Lincoln Center in midtown Manhattan.
In light of increasing violence in the Muslim world since the American-led invasion of Iraq, 鄭 Dialogue on Shias, Sunnis, and Politics in Iraq・is more timely than ever. Never has an initiative sought to galvanize American Muslims in the political arena at this level, which is one IV痴 goals. And there is nothing more appropriate than a hotbed issue like Iraq to catalyze this political progress. This is the first chance for American Muslims and concerned citizens to be heard irrespective of political affliations or opinions, so the significance of this historic event cannot be overstated.
The keynote for this first IV event is one of the most influential intellectuals in the world, Dr. Noam Chomsky. The dialogue will open with our Shia-Sunni Speakers・Panel, a collection of some of the most politically savvy Muslims from the US and UK, which will be moderated by the award-winning independent journalist Amy Goodman of Democracy Now! Because sectarian division is at the heart of the tension in Iraq, the Panel will consist of equal representation from the Sunni and Shia sects of Islam. Also represented on our panel are diverse points of view regarding the war in Iraq.
Following the dialogue, the audience may participate in concurrent breakout sessions to discuss the issues that were presented. Seating for these sessions is limited, so please purchase tickets early and request a breakout session seat. You can purchase tickets by visiting our website, www.independentviewpoints.org, or through an IV representative in your area.
Sincerely,
IV Board 2005-2006
